Atlanta city leaders offer programs for youth to have a fun, productive summer

Atlanta city leaders offer young people options for the summer

ATLANTA, GA — With students out of school for the summer, city leaders in Atlanta are offering programs to keep youth crime down and for them to have a fun and productive summer break.

From summer internship and employment opportunities to lost-cost camps, Mayor Andre Dickens says the city has a host of options for parents looking to keep their kids occupied this summer.

“Idle minds, they say it becomes the devils workshop,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

Mayor Dickens says while it is still early in the summer break, he is optimistic that the city of Atlanta can continue its trend of declining violent crime over the next couple of months.

“What we want to do is keep them busy,” he said. “Our administration has always known that when we brought youth crime down, overall crime would come down, and it has.”

City leaders say the key to continuing to reduce crime is keeping kids active, involved in youth programs and summer jobs.

Mayor Dickens says many of the city’s programs start next week and there’s still time to get your kids signed up.

City leaders encourage parents to be aware of the variety of programs the city of Atlanta offers, including low-cost camps, summer jobs, as well as parks and pools.

The mayor’s office has partnered with Atlanta Public Schools to make some of its facilities available.

Mayor Dickens says more than 3,000 kids can participate in the city’s employment program.
